ATEX

Respiratory protection for potentially explosive atmospheres

The swiss air ATEX and e3000X ATEX powered air systems are certified for zones 2 (gas) and 22 (dust), where explosive atmospheres may occur.

optrel e3000X — ATEX

ATEX (from the French ATmosphères EXplosibles) refers to the EU rules on explosion protection. Directive 2014/34/EU sets the technical requirements for equipment and protective systems intended for potentially explosive atmospheres, and Directive 1999/92/EC sets the health and safety requirements for work in such zones.

What certification means

ATEX-certified equipment uses a design and materials chosen to prevent sparks and excessive heat. It is labelled with its type of protection, equipment category and temperature class, and its conformity is certified by an independent body.

When you need it

An explosive atmosphere forms when gases, vapours or dusts — such as methane, propane, butane, petrol, diesel, alcohol, or wood, metal or plastic dust — reach a concentration in air that can explode. This applies, among others, to the chemical, oil, gas and pharmaceutical industries, tank farms, machine maintenance in hazardous areas, and the transport and storage of flammable materials.

ATEX in the optrel range

The swiss air ATEX and e3000X ATEX powered air systems are certified for zone 2 (gas) and zone 22 (dust). If regulations, your industry or your safety officer require ATEX equipment, check whether approval for zones 2 and 22 is sufficient for your workplace.
